My name is Angie Thomas and I would like to show you and the teenagers the importance of having a good relationship with the communities around the country.

In my book The Hate U Give, I have wrote about the injustice in oppressed areas in the U.S, or to be precise have wrote about a community called Garden Heights. I would say that Garden Heights represents the injustice and lonelyhood that really exists in oppressed neighborhoods. The people who are living in this neighborhoods call their lifestyle THUG Life. The white people have a tendency to evaluate this term to something negative, and they like to look down on the people who are living there. To be able to help the oppressed minorities who lives on the streets, a change is needed. We cannot expect this oppressed people to just stop themselves from doing criminal activities, because that might be their only possible way to make money. Therefore we need to create new job opportunities in the oppressed neighborhoods, secondly, the police department needs to reeducate their employees to prevent horrible mistakes from happening, like what happened to Khalil when he got shot while being unarmed. I believe that the teenagers really needs to read my book in order to get a good understanding about the tough environment some people have to experience every day. I also believe that my book would give the teenagers hope for the future when the whitness Starr's bravery while fighting the structural racism. When they see Starr succed with her goals to reduce the violence and racism, I hope that would motivate the readers to fight their own areas inequalities to make the world a better and safer
