Tell a story. These stories can show who people are in the world, to show a light to help find who’s lost in the dark. Stories can be ridiculous or heart-wrenching, but they can always provide character in the storyteller, and in the characters they weave with words. Most importantly, stories provide an understanding about an aspect of life, whether it is nature or social interaction. Recurring themes are created in order for common aspects among all the people inside the tale, to realize . In the novel Inkheart, the telling of the story in the book is the way characters are disguised and revealed through the actions made by the characters throughout the novel. Pride is a prevalent theme in Inkheart, from showing a cruel sense of morals, to enjoying what you do. Each character is affected by pride in the novel, and deepening the depth of their character. For example, throughout the book, Dustfinger’s cowardice is easy to spot. However, his pride is still prevalent in the book as one of its major themes. When he plays with his fire, he reverts into a childlike state, playing with his toys, as described in the book “He made the fire climb high in the air, as if to set the stars alight. Then he lit a second torch and ran its flame over his bare arms. He looked as happy as a child playing with a pet animal.” (67). This shows his pride for his profession as a skilled fireplayer, making Dustfinger replace his fear and doubt for confidence for his activity. Although his pride is the least prevalent compared to most of the other characters in the novel, his pride for the art of the flame is shown in detail in order to provide depth to his character. Furthermore, the vanity and pride of Capricorn is easily identifiable when Capricorn erects a statue of himself inside a church.. By erecting a statue of yourself in a church, Capricorn chooses to believe that you are ahead of and are stronger than everyone else: the definition of pride. In short, even though pride is prominent throughout all
