Your honor, Mr. Tokumisa Nzambe po Mose yamoyinmdo abotami namboka ya Bakoko is not guilty of murdering Mr. François Makélé because according to Black Moses, written by Alain Mabanckou, which describes all the leading events and the people that Moses met that lead to Moses’ insanity. Moses had a family-like relationship with certain characters in the novel especially Papa Moupelo, Sabine Niangui, The Twins, Bonaventure, Maman fiat 500. But what really caused Moses’s insanity was his constant separation from these “family members''. In order to help with Moses' sanity Moses’ neighbor tried to help by bringing him to two separate doctors which did not help because of Moses' constant drinking addiction. She was Moses’ first mother figure in his life and helped nurture Moses like a mother would do. “She’s standing there with a glass of water in one hand an aspirin in the other.”(Mabanckou, 61) This shows that Sabine was a real mother figure to Moses because she took care of his illness like a mother would do. She also told Moses about the history of the orphanage and how it used to be. This example showed how close Moses was to Sabine. When Moses was first taken by Maman Fiat 500 she did not treat Moses like a regular brothel client. She treated him like a son. “Only God can judge our acts, Little Pepper.”(Mabanckou 127) This quote contains much information about Moses’ relationship with Maman Fiat 500. Just like a real mother she gives Moses advice about life, as well as she addresses Moses with a nickname, Little Pepper.
