Movie: Inside Out The story of Inside Out is about a 11-year-old girl called Riley, moving to San Francisco with her parents. The five emotions in her brain, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger tries to help her cope with her new life. When Joy and Sadness are accidentally kicked out of headquarters (Riley’s brain), they went on a wild journey to bring back the happiness experienced by Riley when she was a kid. Themes: There are several themes in this movie, including value of all feelings, feeling multiple feelings at once as well as personal growth. New memories are made and stored every day. Some experiences become long-term memory while others become core memories that shapes us. Old memories can become less important or even forgotten. Riley is a girl who has all kinds of feelings, joy, sadness, disgust and anger. Although her life has been marked by Joy, she is also affected by other types of emotions. “Come on! Fall on your face.” This quote shows that shortcuts are not always easy and short as we expected. Bing Bong told Joy and Sadness there is a shortcut. He claimed that the route was safe as he’d taken it many times before. It is easy to go and can buy time for them. However, they got into trouble when getting through Abstract Land. They’re changing into abstract shapes and going from 3D to 2D shape. Through these changes, it looked like they may not make their way to Riley’s brain. When it looked like all hope were lost, Sadness told Joy and Bing Bong to fall on their face. They were in 2D shape so they could make it through the small door by doing so. Sadness taught us not to be scared to fail because it could be the vantage point you need. Also, the shortcuts we try to take are often longer and more complicated than the straightforward path.
