One of the most aggressive and successful intelligence organizations in the world, Israel’s Mossad, also referred to as the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations, was conceived on 13 December 1949 as the Institute of Coordination for Intelligence Operations at the behest of Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. It is one of three intelligence organizations within the country. Referred to as the “small brother” standing in Hezbollah’s shadow, Hamas is a Palestinian militant movement that emerged in the Gaza Strip during 1987, originally as the political arm of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood. Much like Israel’s other enemies, Hamas participates in the political process and provides social services for those loyal to the organization.
