Organized Crime/Mobster Activity Organized Crime increased due to the fact that politicians and the police were involved in almost every situation. Therefore politicians and the police would accept bribes to look away from a crime or keep criminals out of jail even if that meant putting dangerous criminals back out in the streets. Organized Crime has impacted the world since the 1920s and continues to do so. During the 1920s American Mafia rose to power extremely fast. Organization became a way of mobsters because they figured out that if everything was in order and in place they would know where and how everything is working and the more they were organized the more money they would gain. “The Kefauver committee of the U.S. Sennate conducted hearings on crime and concluded an organized Mafia did indeed operate nationwide” (“Organized Crime-American” par. 10). To tell the truth, “Politicians could be bought through bribery, which created the possibility to team up and gain immunity from the law” (“The Corrupt City” 4). Politicians would do whatever is asked of them as long as they themselves got something out of it in return, which was more than often, and the more gangsters gained immunity the more criminal activity there would be. In all honesty, “The corruption in the government system allowed organized crime to grow” (“The Corrupt City” 3). Since the government was corrupt they would allow criminals to go free, but only if the criminals offered them a lot of money or something for their own personal gain. Furthermore, “Children were often exposed to criminal activity at young ages” (“The Corrupt City” 2). When children were young and saw some crimes being done they thought it was so cool or that the criminals were just doing things they thought was right, so the younger kids were the more time they had to learn about crime and become leaders of criminals.
