“I don’t want to play with any of those black animals.” How many of color people were treated back in the 70’s, life wasn’t as fair for the color as they are present days. This was the case in the fictional movie “Remember the Titans” by Boaz Yakin. Gary Bertier was forced to reorganize his thoughts and open to new changes around him as the captain of his new integrated football team. In the beginning, while living in an integrated town, Gary is a rebellious judgmental teenager. Gary, a white teenager who live in a prejudiced town and is the captain of his football team discovered his school was getting integrated. He dislikes the idea, as a kid, he was educated to dislike colored people and that they should not receive the same privilege as him. Once after discovering the news, Gary approached his current white coach, Coach Yoast “I don’t want to play with any of those black animals.” This action proves that even before Gary meet his new colored teammate he judge them and saying he don’t want to be on the same team as them. This develops the idea that in the beginning of the movie Gary is someone who judges other before meeting them. Originally the team separated themselves by colored until Coach Boone – the new black coach separated them by defense and offense. The team members were forced to bunk with a member of the opposite race. On the first day as Gary and his roommate Julius, the captain of the black football team, Gary lost his temper. “Gary got in a fight with Julius just because of a poster that Julius put up creating a fight between both races.” This action shows that Gary doesn’t care for his new member and the future of the team as the captain. This develops that idea that even in the middle of the film he have not changed and even though he has not meet all his new team member he already developed a big disliking to all of them. Soon after Coach Boone discovered the fight he has brought the team to a historical sight, proving to them that both races are not any different from another besides the color of their skin. After that, all of the members was on top of things, all but Gary’s white best friend, Ray. “Ray purposely not block a hit for Rev, if this is an actual game Rev would’ve broke his wrist, making Gary mad at Ray for not blocking.” This action proves that slowly he is starting to care and understand his black teammate.
