Today in our community there are those who go day by day suffering from their disability. Many of those who have a disability have come to know Christ. But, many have not. By not knowing who Christ is, one may perceive that those who have a disability might have a harder time understanding why they are suffering compared to someone who already knows God and his worth for each person. The question that arises is “Is there any purpose in suffering as it relates to disability and if so, what is it? However, we know that is not true. God loves us, but for those who have disabilities, it is sometimes hard for them to understand that God still has an endless supply of love that he is just waiting to give us. In the Bible, however, disability is talked about often. There are stories of Jesus healing the blind and the sick and those who are lame, and ultimately having a disability. But what many don’t understand the reason people have disabilities isn’t that God hates us but rather that God is telling us to remember what happened with Adam and Eve. In Romans chapter 8 verses 18-21 it says that because of Adam and Eve and not the fault of our own sin, the world will decay. Of course, God didn’t intend for us to suffer, but we do suffer now because it helps us to not sin against Him any longer. So, instead of going against him and causing sin, we suffer so we are more likely to go to Him rather than things the devil has placed in front of us (2 Cor 2:19). The great thing about following Jesus is that anyone can be a follower. God will accept anyone no matter their deformities, physical or psychological.
