Fences There was a lot of internal and external feeling in this story and it affected the characters in a brutal way. In the play “fences” by August Wilson there were a lot of Internal and external feelings that could mean a lot of different things. The main character was so unsatisfied with his life that it showed how racial segregation and injustice can create hardships for families, a personal lack of self-esteem, and lead to uncontrollable circumstances. The author also used the main character's feelings toward the other cheaters to drive the conflict and story element in different directions . Troy feels dissatisfied with his life. He's unhappy that his pro baseball dreams were stopped by racial discrimination. He feels trapped and unfulfilled in his job as a garbage collector. Troy has so much hate and discomfort inside of him that from the past where he just let all his anger and unhappiness out on everybody else and he wants them to feel how he feels. It's like Troy drinked all the time because he thought that that would just ease the pain with what was going on but not knowing when he did drink he would get drunk and do things that would escalate. In the beginning of the text when Troy was talking to Bono on the back porch he was talking about his life and comparing his life to baseball. Troy stated “death ain't nothing i don seen him, i don wrestled with him you can't tell me nothing about death . death ain't nothing but a fastball on the outside corner (act1 scene 1 and 2). Troy was talking about how he felt about death also in the same act when Troy was talking to his son lions he was saying how he dont get any credit when he comes home from a hard day of work so he's just letting go of the problems he has built up inside
