The main protagonist in Star Wars Episode III is Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker. Throughout the movie he struggles with finding himself. The conflict is both internal and external. It switches from Man vs Man to, Man vs Self to, Man vs Society. From the Man vs Man aspect, Anakin is pitted against his Jedi Master who has deep feelings towards him as a student but doesn’t agree with the choices in his personal life, which will inevitably affect his duty as a Knight in the Jedi Order. From the perspective of Man vs Self; Anakin lives with the internal fear that the Jedi Order will find out about his secret love life. He lived a double life as a Dark Sith Lord and as a political leader of the Galactic Republic. After years of deception and slowly manipulating the senate of the Grand Republic, he was granted the title and position of Supreme Chancellor; and then eventually Emperor. He wasn’t really ‘antagonizing’ the protagonist (Anakin Skywalker), he merely manipulated every situation Anakin entered therefore ensuring the outcome leads to Anakin’s imminent downfall to the dark side of the force. From the rescue of Chancellor Palpatine (himself acting as a double agent) all the way to the death of General Grievous; Darth Sidious controlled Anakin's environment which lead to his turning to the dark side. He skillfully sat back and probed the Senate until he had full control and then he used his new profound powers to take absolute control of the Galactic Republic. After becoming the supreme chancellor of the largest government in the galaxy, he transformed the Galactic Republic in to the first Galactic Empire. Now that you add the fact that he is secretly the strongest Sith Lord to ever exist, you now have the largest evil entity to exist in the whole Star Wars Saga. He could count as a secondary protagonist but he is killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi in the middle of the movie. He makes for a great static character because his personality, attitude and demeanor stays consistent throughout the movie. His role as Supreme Commander of the Separatist Droid Army demands for him to be ruthless and blood thirsty. Even before being the leader of the Droid Army, he was a vicious warrior. From being introduced, all the way to his death, not once during the course of the movie did he change his personality. He becomes easily impatient with the battle droids within his army whenever they do not fulfill his desires. This leads to his downfall because, the Magnaguards that he assigned to kill Obi-Wan, died within the first thirty seconds of the fight when Obi-Wan crushed them with using his force abilities.
