Internet Censorship

" We the Students The government should not have complete control over the Internet. Even without the need to control it, it helps the economy. So, why should they need to control it when they are benefiting? If the government started to censor and control what we see and don’t see, they could begin to take advantage of the nation. They shouldn’t need to use internet censorship to their advantage. On their own, people can do that themselves. We can control what we view among the Internet. Without censoring the Internet, the government still and will gain from the increase in economy. Which gives them no need to control our views throughout social media or websites.

The government

“Internet censorship is the act of banning or blocking some or all of content that can be published, viewed, and accessed online” (Green Garage Blog). The Internet should have some or certain things censored to protect the users. But, the government should not be the ones to control it. The users of the Internet can do that themselves. “Individuals can have control of what to see and read, making it irrelevant to have law banning content online” (Green Garage Blog). Meaning, we have the control of what we look at online. Whether it’s on social media or the surfing of different websites. That is all out of our own choice, what we view. We decide what to view or who we follow, that shouldn’t regard the government. “Aside from upfront expenses, there are also added costs for maintenance and monitoring” (Green Garage Blog). If the government was constantly monitoring the Internet it would cost them maybe millions of dollars just to maintain what we view. Another concern is, if they began censoring and monitoring the world wide web would they use this as an advantage. One claim is, “dictators can use this to only publish images and stories that will work for their personal gain and not of his or her constituents” (Green Garage Blog). People running for office could use this as an advantage and censor anything against themselves. Only certain things should be censored but not everything. We can control this ourselves and we don’t want the government to have this as an advantage against
