For many years, interracial couples was being looked down upon because the diversity within the relationship involving race and religion. For some families it is hard to accept interracial couples because it can cause several problems in a family including different religious beliefs and difference in race, but the past is in the past. Race and religion should not matter when it comes to choosing a significant other because diversity among races is more common in this era, and people are making an effort to accept interfaith relationships by supporting them.

This is seen in an article that talks about obstacles in interracial marriages. It states, “Many parents are reluctant about their children marrying outside their race because they fear that the interracial couple and any future children will fall prey to harsh or perhaps dangerous bigotry. Other parents are more concerned with furthering the “purity” of their family heritage, in which religious and cultural affiliations are privileged.”(Family Intolerance, 2006, p.1). When there is an interracial couple involved in a family it can cause an uneasy feeling on difference affecting religion, traditions, and even future children. For example, some interracial couples might be involved in a religion that the family may not practice. Plus different races practice different cultures that the family may not also practice. With this factor in mind, race and religion should still not matter when choosing a significant other. These problems may be true for some families but not all. Day by day diversity overall, no matter if it involves race or religion is becoming more accepting, making these problems less occurring. Based on the information in an article on obstacles in interracial marriages, there are families who possess the term “open families” because they are accepting to interracial marriages(Family Intolerance, 2006, p.2). This is a new era. Many
