Miscegenation has been a topic of controversy for decades. Interracial marriage is a union between two people from different racial backgrounds. Arguments anywhere from biblical reasons, to what would be best for the children, to differences in the cultures of various races have been given as to why such partnerships are morally dishonorable. For the few that make it passed all the other judgements to the actual relationship are then subject to the varying stereotypes about themselves and their lives. Especially in recent years, the divide between the races and their cultures have been growing for the first time in a while. America has been making progress mending the gaps of different groups of people and establishing the idea of equality. One man, Keith Bardwell, would not marry an interracial couple. He claimed that he was not a racist, but believed that the biracial children would suffer many hardships through life. Many people believe mixed children will have a harder time being accepted by their peers. Some people claim biracial children have a hard time understanding themselves and their identity. However, everything is about perception. A majority of people who feel that children of mixed race are at a disadvantage are simply in the state of fear because humans naturally fear things that are new. Children of interracial marriages are often times at an advantage compared to others due to their dynamic ethnicity. According to Pew Research Center’s 2015 survey, only 4% of biracial children felt that their ethnicity was a “disadvantage” and 19% view it as an advantage.
