The mindset of other individuals would discriminate women for their intersectionality; especially if it is depicting the color of their skin, race, and etc. Intersectionality has many interpretations but society has characterized it into a social categorization such as race, sex, class which creates interdependent system of discrimination/ disadvantages. During the 1960’s the film “Hidden Figures”, gave a prime example of intersectionality; showing viewers how the women were treated on a daily basis in and out of NASA. Through the elements of: racism, sexism, and class (economic standards).

Having class is important because you could come from nothing and become something in a matter of time. For instance, Dorothy strived so hard to attain the position of supervisor since she was already doing the work of a supervisor but wasn’t getting the same amount of a supervisor because she was an African American. Later in the film, Dorothy subsequently got what she asked. She received the position as a supervisor and got the same pay as a supervisor.

In conclusion, at the time when the film Hidden Figures was filmed it had elements of racism, sexism, and class (economic standards) which was a prime example of intersectionality and how the women were treated on a daily basis. “Their dark skin, their gender, their economic status… none of these were acceptable excuses for not giving the fullest limitation to their imagination and ambition...” this quote signifies that no matter what’s the color of your skin, race, gender, or your economic status both sexes are destined for success using your knowledge and your creativity.
