Domestic violence and intimate partner violence (IPV) have been longstanding social issues that have affected women across the world. Women in abusive relationships face numerous challenges, including physical and emotional abuse, isolation, and financial dependence. Despite the prevalence of domestic violence, there is a lack of in-depth understanding of the experiences of women in abusive relationships. The study by Stöckl et al. (2013) shows that intimate partner homicide is a common experience for women and that women with a history of intimate partner violence are at an increased risk of homicide. This study will explore the experiences of women who have experienced intimate partner violence, including the forms of abuse they have encountered, the impact of abuse on their lives, and their coping strategies. The study may find that women in abusive relationships in the Philippines often face multiple forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological, and sexual abuse, and also experience economic abuse, such as being denied access to financial resources and being forced to depend on their abusive partner for economic support. Also, the study may find that women's experiences of abuse are often shaped by cultural and gender norms that perpetuate patriarchal attitudes and beliefs about women's roles and responsibilities, and it may examine the impact of abuse on women's emotional and psychological well-being. Women in abusive relationships may experience a range of negative emotional and psychological consequences, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health problems. They may also experience low self-esteem, feelings of shame and guilt, and a sense of isolation and helplessness. The study will highlight the need for comprehensive and coordinated interventions that address the emotional and psychological well-being of survivors of intimate partner violence in the Philippines.
