“It’s only hubris if I fail” by Julius Caesar. This quote can summarize Chris McCandless and Victor Frankenstein perfectly. They were very prideful and knew that they would succeed in everything they do, which they somewhat did. Chris lived in the wild for 100 days but died and Victor created a monster that killed people. So both their pride brought them to failure. Chris McCandless was the main character in the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. He wrote it based on a true story because we in our generation are so trapped in the social setting that becomes part of us and who we are. In Chris situation was that he exhausted of living the materialistic and unstable house life that one day he decided to leave everything and walk into the wild. The action he took, left his family devastated and worried because throughout the story they found out that he abandoned his car, burned his money and did not bring items that would keep him alive. Chris was to prideful for not taking some of the essential material or food he needed. His goal was to not live materialistically but instead use what nature has given and be with nature. Similar to Victor, the monster he created in the beginning of the story harmed a family member and a friend. The first person was Victor’s younger brother, William. The second person was Justine, a servant who lives with Victor’s family. He was to certain that he created something amazing yet it became something harmful. In a similar way, both Chris and Victor contained too much pride in them which later in their life have to take the consequence of
