Introduced Vs Invasive Species Introduced species is a technical term for a species existing outside of its natural environment or foreign species. Often introduced species are just that, introduced by human beings and these types are on occasion presented unbeknownst. For instance, the American Bison is an introduced species that has now become the national mammal of the United States of America. As well as the Western Honeybee which is believed to originate in Africa, Europe and also the Middle East (Mortensen, Schmehl, & Ellis, 2013). The honeybees help our environment by pollinating different plants and they are so common and engrained into common day, that often people forget they are a non-native species. However, most introduced species develop into invasive species and actually harm the ecosystem and humans. More often than not, introduced species exist in places they do not originate and push other species (plants, animals, insects etc.) into extinction by competing to survive with the other of its kind. According to the National Wildlife Foundation, invasive species after first invading an area can have zero predators which allow it to reproduce and continue to compete and overcome other species. For example the Stink Bug from the Asian countries expanded rapidly due to no predators and have become an extreme annoyance among people and agriculture and ruin crops. (Invasive Species, n.d.) Possible Solutions Fortunately, reducing invasive species is possible with effort on each and everyone’s part. A few ways to combat species from harming the ecosystem and invading the environment is to understand and be able to identify non-native
