Introductory Reflective Essay As an international student studying Business Administration, I had been intimidated by English writing for many years. After failing the Writing Skills Test, I realized that I performed poorly in academic writing at the university level and must take an English class to develop my writing competency. After taking the ENGL3000, I have transformed from a person who was confused about English writing to a person who has grasped the effective strategies to write proficiently. Therefore, I am certain that I can satisfy the University Writing Skills Requirement (UWSR) and receive a Clear Competence because I made a tremendous improvement in crafting a thesis statement, organizing the paragraphs, and developing ideas. …show more content…
Thesis statement plays a significant role in any writings since it represents the author’s stance. I had a difficult time exploring an effective thesis because I did not understand how to make it focused, substantial, arguable, and supportable. In the past few weeks, I have read many class materials, finished many practices, and revised my two out of class essays many times. In the process of learning and practice, I understood that an effective thesis should include a brief answer to the question, my clear position on an issue, and succinct reasons that support my claim. For example, in my position essay “Don’t Judge McDonald’s Kind of Part-Time Jobs,” I have an effective thesis that presents my response to the reading and my position to the issue with specific reasons.
