Historian Daniel J. Boorstin once said, “Technology is so much fun, but we can drown in our technology. The fog of information can drive out knowledge”. Boorstin believes that technology is fun and is helpful to society, but technology can be overused and can take over our knowledge, which can take over our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Nowadays most people prefer reading online rather than reading a print book, which has changed our society today in numerous helpful, yet hazardous ways. Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451 interprets what our society will be later on due to the overuse of technology, and the lack of reading print books.
Conrad Hill once said “You are always a student, never a master. You have to keep moving forward.” Steve Jobs reiterates this during his 2005 Stanford graduating class commencement speech. In it, Jobs talks to the graduates about his experiences and how they apply to the concept of never giving up. By guiding the audience through events in his life, Jobs encourages them to keep moving forward, and to never settle with what’s been given to them.
The article, “ Identifying Thinking Skills for Instruction in Your Classroom,” written by Deborah E. Burns, addresses and explains the taxonomy of Thinking Skills by focusing on the four major thinking skill categories, including: Analytical Reasoning Skills, Critical Thinking Skills, Organizational Thinking Skills, and Creative Thinking Skills. In the article, Burns explains the purpose of the taxonomy was to identify, “thinking skills that were most frequently addressed in the professional literature and within the various thinking skills programs and materials” (Burns D.E., 1993). Burns uses the article to provide strategies and examples in order for educators to successfully implement the taxonomy and thinking skills in different classroom settings. The article provides multiple outlets to provide the stimulus needed to exercise the Thinking Skills highlighted in the article.
