How did the invention of the airplane affect world war two? Militaries have been transformed due to the introduction of the airplane. During World War Two, airplanes would have decided if you won or lost a battle. Airplanes affected World War Two tremendously. Aviation had changed a lot from the humble beginnings to the second world war. There was a tremendous amount of use to airplanes during World War two as well. One of the most important roles that an aircraft played was a fighter. Fighter aircraft would be pushed to the limits of aviation. Fighters were planes that fought other planes. These aircraft were very maneuverable and had impressive armament. Nations across the world raced each other to have the top of the line fighter. Fighters also shoot down enemy bombers. Bomber aircraft were also extremely important during war. Bomber aircraft are massive aircraft that drop munitions on enemy territory. Bombers had turrets to protect them from enemy interceptors and fighters. Interceptors were the biggest fear for bombers. These aircraft are part of the fighter role. Interceptors are aircraft that have a very good climb rate. Interceptors also had a very good armament. Interceptors usually did not have the best turn rate but they made it up for their armor. Reconnaissance aircraft played a very important role during war. These aircraft would go out over enemy territory and look for enemy depos or airfields or any important enemy land. These aircraft would then really the location of enemies back to headquarters. Then the aircraft insights would be used to attack the enemy. One of the most innovative aircraft was the Messerschmitt Me 262. The Me 262 was the first ever jet fighter aircraft. This aircraft had a top speed of around 540 mph. The aircraft has 2 30 millimeter cannons. The aircraft also had 2 20 millimeter cannons. Another major aircraft was the P-51 Mustang. This aircraft had a low laminar wing with gave the aircraft amazing performance and had an extremely good range(distance a plane can travel). This aircraft would protect bombers to their bomb dropping area. This aircraft had 6 .50 caliber machine guns. Another impressive aircraft was the P-47 thunderbolt. This aircraft was used for many things. It was a fighter, a fighter/bomber, a cas (close air support), and an escort for bombers. This aircraft had an impressive armament of 8 .50 caliber machine guns. The aircraft had amazing armor and a great top speed due to its R-2800 Double Wasp engine. Another aircraft with huge innovation was the B-29 Superfortress. The B-29 was the first aircraft to be fully pressurized. The B-29 Superfortress could also fly higher than almost any other aircraft of the time. The B-29 could also drop a nuclear payload. The F4U corsair was an amazing fighter.
