The invention of the automobile might have been the most impactful invention of the 20th century. This invention drastically changed everyday life for people all over the country. By the end of the 1920s, the number of registered drivers in the US was around 23 million and was almost triple the amount at the start of the decade. The automobile caused many economic opportunities across the nation. Different industries were created specifically for creating parts of automobiles. Oil and steel industries were greatly boosted by the invention of automobiles. Oil was required for these automobiles to run, and steel was the primary material for the building of an automobile. During World War 2, the US was practicing neutrality and did not want to get involved. Despite being neutral, the US had placed economic sanctions on Japan because of the tension they were causing in Asia. This resulted in Japan’s natural resources being depleted. With the purpose of preventing American interference in the Pacific war, Japan decided to bomb Pearl Harbor which housed a US naval station on December 7th, 1941. Japan had attacked American soil, and the US was not going to back away from this threat. This pushed Roosevelt to make a public statement that the US was joining the war, and that they were going to win and create peace. The definition of a war theater is an area where significant military events occur. The two theatres of World War 2 were the European theater and the Pacific Theater. The US fought many countries such as Nazi Germany, Italy, the Soviet Union, and many smaller countries in the European theater while simultaneously fighting mainly against Japan in the Pacific theater. The European theater was mainly fought on land, while the Pacific theater was primarily fought over ocean. During World War 2, Hitler was known for his abuse of multiple minorities, a primary target being the Jews. Nazi Germany strongly believed in anti-Semitism which is hostility and prejudice against Jewish people. This started the Holocaust, which was the systemic killing of Jews. The stock market crash of 1929 is widely known as the most severe financial crisis that the whole world had ever experienced. On October 28, 1929, the Dow Jones industrial average declined almost 12 percent. Investors on wall street traded around 16 million shares on October 29, 1929, which was known as Black Tuesday. Stock prices completely collapsed, and billions of dollars were lost. Even the stock system’s hardware could not handle the incredible volume of trading. By 1932, stocks were only worth around 20 percent of their value that they were in 1929. The wage gaps before the Great Depression were very unbalanced with the top one percent of families making around 25 percent of all income. Around 60 percent of all families only made around $2,000 a year which was barely livable for a family of five. One significant cause of the Great Depression was the reduction in purchasing power. Many items were being overproduced and people did not make enough money to buy any of these items. Also, lots of money that families made was used to buy stocks. This is another reason why when the stock market crash happened, these families went into poverty because the value of their stocks had greatly reduced.
