This is the age where our standard of living rose and people started to have leisure time to take a walk, and bond with their families. New product were in the market that made the house chores easier, for example the electric oven it made house wives not have to start a fire under a pot and cook with just boiling water, or with a spit. While there are many examples of inventions this age is not mainly focused on those inventions. It has other parts linked in like, economics, pastimes, sports, and labor relations. While the average home could not afford the new inventions out of pocket, many people bought them anyway. They bought them with credit. Lastly labor relations this caused much of the middle class to get depersonalized and had to fight for a job that had long hours and minimum pay. While it was a time of many inventions, it also was the time of economics, pastimes, sports, and labor relations that shaped how we look at this era today.
Inventions were a big part of the industrial era, peoples standard of living increased, peoples home chores got easier and more efficient as new inventions were made. The electric oven for example reduced cooking time and amount of prepping time for the cook of the house. This oven increased people’s standard of living by letting them bond as a family while the dinner cooked without having to constantly add wood to the fire. Another example in the home was the vacuum cleaner. Before this invention the women of the house took the rugs and beat the dust out of them using a broom handle. Goods got shipped faster to their destination, many families could buy the latest gadgets on credit which led to very high debt. The debt cycle caused the great depression in more ways than one. While many of the latest gadgets were T.V.’s or the newest bike, the transportation inventions made sure that delivers got there on time. It also created new past times such as racing and drive in movies. While racing came from an illegal practice it was fun to watch. It was originally used to be a contest between bootleggers to see who could get the line first and evade the police with modded engines. It later turned into racing for people’s enjoyment. The latter drive in movies was originally invented for the parents of a family to have a good time without paying for a babysitter. These movies consisted of a pay per vehicle system and a snack booth. By the time the became popular however only teen were in them since the parents were at home enjoying the newest form of entertainment, the T.V. But things like this don’t get from place to place on a human’s back since cars were the newest trend, this increased the demand for gas and oil which gave plenty of opportunities for men like J.D. Rockefeller to take advantage of. This also created mail order business which instead of going to buy the product
