During the period of 1880- 1930, this was an age for development and the idea to correct the wrongs that have been done before. 1880 - 1930 had two periods in this time: the Industrial Revolution, and the Progressive era. In 1880-1930, major technological developments and the idea of Progressivism dramatically changed American life because new innovations were able to create new inventions which changed the average American’s life by increasing their productivity at work and also at home and also made new types of recreation, and Progressivism impacted Americans economically and politically by improving word conditions and also passing the Nineteenth Amendment which granted women suffrage. After the aftermath of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, an article mentions, “...The legislature passed additional reforms. They set the maximum numbers of workers per floor. They established codes requiring new buildings to include fireproof stairways and fire escapes. They required employers to provide…”(Fire article). The result for the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire is new reforms for better work conditions and the biggest thing of all: Shedding the light on the horrible work conditions since several people suffered in these workplaces such as dirty floors, and unsanitary bathrooms and with no water. In addition to improving work conditions, Congress also passed an Amendment at this time to give women suffrage. The Americans mentions that “...[Alice] Paul had organized her followers to mount a round-the-clock picket line around the White House, when occupant, Wilson, had issued only a lukewarm endorsement of suffrage”(Page 358). This shows the reader that women not only wanted suffrage, they demanded it. In The Iron Jawed Angels, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns go through several hardships through the movie which includes them being sent to Occoquan Workhouse, a prison with horrible conditions, and Alice Paul being force-fed since she and the other women attempted a …show more content…

These developments played a big role in American history since without new inventions, the US would not have had a strong economy and less weapons for war since these inventions also created things that boosted production rates and the Americans would have had outdated technology since without new innovations, the Americans would keep using the same things. In addition, without the reforms for better work conditions, Americans would have been malnourished and cause the death of several soldiers overseas since due to the horrible work conditions, the food that was produced in these factories was contaminated with chemicals, diseases and other things that would harm humans. If women were not given suffrage, then they would rebel and thus would put the US in danger especially in World War II since women were the biggest population that were working in factories that were producing supplies for war..
