Raymond Carver's "Cathedral" is definitely a perfect and organic whole as the author composed the story with many complex elements like irony and first-person narrator, more importantly, the author perfectly unite the complexities with a theme. Carver uses the first-person narrator in the whole story, though the author is famous for minimalism as he never uses so many descriptions to elaborate the figures, he uses the first-person narrator with the dialogue style to illustrate the whole story. The author describes some very detailed changes in each figure with the help of this unique technique, he illustrates the people’s motion and language rather than pointing out their inner activity while also maintain his story concisely.
