The world is made up of two different kinds of people; good and bad. No one in this world is perfect but good people have morals and conscience. While bad people have no guilt nor conscience. In the story “A Good Man is Hard to find” focuses on Christianity being filled with sin and punishment, good and evil, right and wrong. Misfit in this story is demonstrated as “evil”, while the grandmother is considered as “good”, godliness women. Flannery O’Connor uses foreshadowing, irony and characterization to portray the theme in “A Good Man is Hard to find”. O’Conner, use of different foreshadowing techniques, ultimately leads to the family’s fate at the hands of the misfit. The grandmother see herself as a good religion women and a lady that does the right thing. To her goodness means having good manner, being decent and coming from a family of “good blood”. Her actions show differently of what she herself as, she calls a little boy a Negro but a person of religious faith would not have racist ideas or judgmental. She also lies and thinks selfishly, she kept pleading for her own “You wouldn’t shoot a lady” life but not once did she ask him to spare her family.
