Elie Wiesel is able to appoint the role of an antagonist to almost anybody, he does so on page sixty-seven of Night relaying the allegory of malice within a single man’s actions. It says, sometime around the middle of the book, victims of the concentration camps were on their way to the center of Germany. One of the workmen had decided to throw a piece of bread into the wagon the men were in. The men became violent for this piece of bread and fought to the death for some measly crumbs. ( Pg 67 Wiesel ).
1. After the hanging of a child, Elie hears someone say, “‘For God’s sake, where is God?’ And from within me, I heard a voice answer: ‘Where He is? This is where—hanging here from this gallows…’ That night, the soup tasted of corpses” (Wiesel 65). Though optimistic at first, Elie Wiesel, along with many others at the concentration camps, began to lose faith in God.
The quote is important to Elie’s experiences because it shows the severity of what he had been through while inside of the wagon. Having One hundred men crammed inside a single cart and only twelve remaining is a significant difference. It’s important to his experiences because out of all those who died, he and his father managed to come out alive. However, since his father was so old Elie had to help him survive by putting him first and protecting him when others thought he was dead. This quote is important to the book as a whole because it shows how normalized death was for the Jewish people, it shows how disposable the Jews were to the Nazis.
In the middle of the book, the theme that the bystander and the tormentor are equally guilty for the offense created is shown in a section about how Elie Wiesel himself had become a bystander. This happened when his father was slapped by an SS officer. Instead of helping, on page 39 Elie had become the people who he despised, and stood and watched his father. This quote shows the theme because it shows that Elie is acknowledging that he was a bystander with the question “What had happened to me?” Although the quote does not say that he is equally guilty, it can be inferred from the fact that Elie could have done something to help his father, whether that was defending his father before, or helping his father after.

Moreover, Eilis's troubled relationship with her mother intensifies her sense of exile. Her marriage is the result of her entrapping relationship with a mother who insists on maintaining her power over her into her adulthood. Eilis's return to her mother and motherland serves to enhance her dislocation. Her mother seems strange to her. Eilis feels trapped in the house as she has felt trapped in Brooklyn.
Eliezer couldn’t understand why God would let such horrible things that he faced during the holocaust happen. Eliezer would sometimes question God’s existence because he was taught God was everywhere, so good was everywhere as well. Eliezer loses his faith in God, but still believes there is one at the end of the book. The characters in “Night” are forced to confront unimaginable hardship and suffering. They are stripped of their homes, families, and basic human rights, and are subjected to unspeakable atrocities. Despite all of this, many of them find the strength to persevere and survive. The book has taught me how when a person is faced with great adversity, they must persevere to maintain their human spirit.

For a relatively happy person (which is me) they might shed a tear or two depending on how emotional they are.
Elie Wiesel is a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. He has also written Night a memoir about the torture he endured during the Holocaust. The Holocaust took the lives of over 11 million people, among these six million Jews. Elie is one of the Jews who was sent to concentration camps. There he was beaten,was used for manual labor and watched his father being tortured.
