Irony In The Lottery

The Lottery is a nondescript town with approximately three hundred people. On a clear morning, June 27, the townspeople, starting with the children, begin to assemble for the lottery at 10. Everyone that is the age 16 and over draws a piece of paper. Tessie draws the one with the black dot. The children and the adults get stones, and then stone Tessie to death. This is their tradition. They do it every year for good crop growth. Some examples of Irony in the story, is when Tessie gets stoned to death at the end because no one was expecting it. Also was when Mrs. Delacroix is a sweet and loving friend to Teissie, however, things quickly changed and, by the end of the story, the image we have of her changes dramatically. Mrs. Delacroix selected
