Is America a Melting Pot or a Salad Bowl? In fall of 2008, Barack Obama was elected as our 44th president. Coming up to the 2017 president election, the United States was finally the melting pot he always wanted. As our 45th president was elected, (Donald Trump) he has changed our population to what he wanted. Donald Trump never wanted immigrants to enter his home country, so he has changed the United States to think that “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapist” Donald Trump (New York Times 2018). Donald Trump is still trying to convince more of the population, when the United States has rapidly become the salad bowl he’s always wanted. Little Respect? Americans have lost their respect for other cultures and the way other cultures do things, a good amount of white or American people treat colored badly and regard them as stupid or insignificant. Americans are taking other cultures ways for their own credit “blacks were the progenitors of American music thanks to our West African roots, and the popular music genres that evolved from various other genres we started like Jazz, Blues, R&B, Gospel, Rap, Rock to name a few.
