The United states changed dramaticily between 1776 and 1870. The popualtion increased rapidly . People were given constituational rights. There was no more slavery and less racial discrimination. The U.S became more of a industrial economy rather then agricultural.
The book, The Next America by Paul Taylor, was a very interesting and well written book. The book focused on how America has changed over the years throughout the different generations. The book seems to focus on mainly two of the generations, the Baby Boomers and the Millennials. Taylor seems to use the Baby Boomers and the Millennials because the Baby Boomers are growing older and aren’t a fan of change and the Millennials are growing up and are apart of the change. He used a lot of statistics and numbers in the book to compare and contrast the different generations throughout the years.
The United States has had major changes since its establishment. This country has been through a lot of diversity and plenty of ups and downs in order to get to where we are now. We’ve seen a lot of contributions from different people and events that had advantages and disadvantages to come with. For example, our first president George Washington who played a key role in the early development of this country along with the Louisiana Purchase that helped the country double in size, or whether it was negative like the XYZ Affair and the Alien and Sedition acts that caused uproar and outrage to people. Altogether these events brought us what we have today.
The phrase, “The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe”, by H.L. Mencken, an American essayist and social critic, is an accurate and agreeable statement. What Mencken is trying to say here is that people in this society don’t really look for freedom to do whatever they want, instead they look for the feeling of safety because without safety you can’t live life to the fullest. What is freedom if you don’t feel safe? Mencken’s quote emphasizes the true meaning of safety and gets you thinking about what it would be life if we didn’t have that.
Just like popular trends the values of the past has lived their time and have been forgotten, or are less thought of then the used to be, which is why the American identity has been changed and altered. Just like a work of art it has been sculpted, from head to toe, multiple times which is why the American Identity can not be said as "unchanged" because just as like the world it has changed and will continue to change, with little alterations made or with dramatic changes, the identity and face of America is forever
Despite the fact that America was facing one of its worst condition in the progressive era, there are still many people who compare their daily lives based on what's happening nowadays. There are still people like me whom cry over the littlest thing possible in our daily lives, and often forget that we are the most advanced generation ever. We often tend to forget that it took years and years of hard work and sacrifice from our elders to give us the most comforting and stress free life ever and we’re still ungrateful about it. We often cry about how small our house is when people back then use to sleep on the ground, how less we’re getting paid even though people back then didn't get paid at all or how there was a voter fraud even though politicians back then were corrupt and . We often leave positivity in the shade and put negativity out in the spotlight for the word to see.
The election of the first president of a new nation would seem to be that country’s political turning point, but in the case of America’s election of George Washington, it was not. The United State’s Government was still a bicameral legislature and had two opposing political parties, Federalists and Antifederalists. It was only when the first transfer of power took place in The Revolution of 1800 that American politics had reached their turning point. This was the first case of a change in government where no blood was shed, the First Party System disintegrated, and the next three presidents were from a totally new political party.
There are far too many parallels between ancient Rome and modern America. It seems as if many people do not care enough about the path our country is headed down. Ethics and values have gone out the window, the government has doomed the working class, people have become violent, people are acting without fully thinking and war is constant. America needs a change before it is too late. Ethics and values have merely disappeared but when they are present they seem to be hypocritical.
America is falling to pieces: were voting for a president that's simply funny instead of one that could change our country for the better; People are being harmed, not because they have done something wrong, simply because they are being themselves; teenagers are killing themselves because of the cruelty of society and their peers; children are obese and rather play on their parent's smartphone than play with outside with their toys or friends. The people who notice these problems and are trying to fix them are making little progress. Some people are noticing the problems and they will be the ones to change America for the better, although not enough people are noticing and wanting to change for the better so there is little progress. The people who are helping often sympathize or relate to the people being hurt for who they are.

There is always something someone wants to do to improve America and make it a better place to live. From giving more jobs to Americans all the way to legalizing gay marriage in all fifty states, there will always be unhappiness. All I want for America is for us to be happy again.
