A question that most Americans ask is “Are we really free?’ and people respond with multiple different answers such as yes, no, and “we used to be”. This answer always varies on the type of person you ask because everyone has they different meaning of the word “Free”. Freedom means “not under the control or in the power of another”. Freedom was a gift given to America from the forefathers’ victory against the British. The forefathers of America declared us free against Britain but was everyone in America free? America was not free from the start, it took the Americans decades to find out the true meaning of free. The first perspective is believing that America is free. This is the most common answer because compared to the rest of the world, America has the most freedom. Have you heard of a young girl from Pakistan named “Malala Yousafzai”? She is an activist for female education who was shot and paralyzed on the left side of her face because she went to school. Americans do not tend to believe this because it is found astonishing that a female cannot go to school in Pakistan. Many people believe this to be true because people do not agree with the laws in order. Americans do not understand that the laws keep criminals in jail and keep us alive. Americans tend to think that laws are useless and if anything does happen, they can just work it out and protect themselves. Well, this is not the case, the people of Iraq, Syria, and Pakistan all thought this as well and look where they are? These countries all have terrorist groups that have been attacking all these people that thought they could protect themselves. Do you really think laws keep America from being free? Or would you prefer laws and not have to deal with terrorists
