William Shakespeare's, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, demonstrates the perfect example of Brutus being one of the most honorable men in Rome having to decide whether to kill his best friend for the greater good of Rome or stay loyal to the man who got him to where he was. Brutus is considered to be both a hero and a villain because he did not want to live in a country where the citizens would be dictated to by a king but also betrayed his best friend by killing him. Julius Caesar considered Brutus to be an honest and loyal friend, some might even say an ally. Moreover, not only did Brutus kill his best friend, but he bathed his hands in Caesar's blood which ultimately shows that Brutus was capable of turning into a cruel and violent villain. Furthermore, bathing his hands in Caesar's blood shows that Brutus did not in the slightest bit feel any type of remorse for killing his friend, and that shows that he was content with what he did. Marc Antony states "You all did love him once, not without cause". Marc Antony was allowed to speak at Caesar's funeral and he told the public that Brutus murdered a kind leader who wanted the best for his people and that the people respected him tremendously. Caesar's last words were, "Et tu, Brute! Then fall Caesar!" Caesar's last words were when Caesar realized that one of the most honorable men in Rome, backstabbed him in the most deviating way possible. Accordingly, Caesar understood why the other conspirators would want him dead, but he could not process the fact that Brutus, who he saw as a brother, would betray him and not stand up for him.
