Why is cheerleading should not be considered a club but a sport just as any other team. Cheerleading is not just a blonde bimbo waving a sign in there air. Cheerleading is defined as an encourager for teams a team motivator as well as a person with special crowd pumping skills. Cheerleading consist of strength, skills, and dedication.
Dancing is considered a sport so why isn’t cheerleading? Dancing makes up of about 50 percent of cheerleading. Dancing consist of strength, memorization, coordination and dedication. The skills a person has to have to be able to do all of that needs to be very good, not just any average Joe. If dancing is a sport and is part of cheerleading than cheerleading is a sport too. Gymnastics requires years of practice and strength. To be able to tumble good by freshmen year of high school one would need start practicing at about age. Stunting is a talent at which each cheerleader holds a different position in holding another cheerleader into pyramids and other stunts; that requires strength and practice. Cheerleaders most often have practices four days a week after school and games on Friday nights for football season. And then for basketball there are about two games a week including four practices. College cheerleaders actually practice 5 days a week morning and afternoon that is dedication. Not showing up to a practice could result in one being punished by sitting out at games. Not only do games and practice take up most of the athlete’s time but competitions on top of that. Practicing all year around for that perfect routine that consist of dancing, tumbling, stunting and smiling. All of these dances, cheers and chants come from memorization. A cheerleader has to memorize the same amount if words as a Broadway performer and has to be able to know them at any given time. All of those skills are choreographed into one
