Is Fahrenheit 451 Still Pertinent In Our Society Today? In the book of Fahrenheit 451, the society is represented to be a perfect utopia except the fact that books are not allowed. If by any means the people were caught with books in their possession or in their house, then, their house was parched down. Fahrenheit 451 was a book written in 1953. In both society's majority rules, people will side with where they think is right over what they know is right. In the Fahrenheit society the government convinces and divert the citizens attention from the fact that the government is taking away the one resource that can separate the smart from the not so intelligent, the hardworking from the lazy, and those willing to explore all the world has got to offer to those just satisfied with being basic. The government of 451 has made things seem simpler. According to Captain Beatty “ Books are cut shorter, Classics are cut to fit fifteen-minute radio shows, then cut again to fill a 2-minute column, winding up at last as a ten or twelve line dictionary resume”(Bradbury ). “School has been shortened, discipline relaxed, philosophies, histories, languages dropped, English and spelling gradually, gradually neglected, finally almost completely ignored.” (Bradbury, ) .This correlates to our society because kids nowadays are being limited on what they can learn, the standards have been set low to the point of which a student does not even have to work for a passing grade. Some books have been censored. Most books are banned from society should they contain any racial slurs, explicit words or scenes.
