The audience in the novel Fahrenheit 451 and the audience in the animated movie Wall-E have both similarities and differences. This can be shown by dissecting the audience into three parts; age group, accessibility and the background of the audience. Wall-E has a considerably larger audience when looking at the age group. Wall-E appeals to children and to adults. Children take an interest in Wall-E due to the way in which it is presented. Fahrenheit 451 is a novel and it uses very complex ideas and language. This type of text is better suited for adults because children do not often try to tackle such complex ideas at such a young age. When comparing Fahrenheit 451 to Wall-E, the targeted age groups overlap because both appeal to adults, but they differ in that Wall-E also appeals to children. Another way we could distinguish the audiences of the two texts is through their accessibility. Wall-E is easily accessible to people of all ages. This is shown in the way it is presented. Wall-E is a ninety-eight minute long, animated movie that does not take a lot of thought or time to understand due to its “easy to follow” story line and its uncomplicated characters. These characteristics make the movie suitable for children and adults. Contrastingly Fahrenheit 451 is not very accessible to juveniles. This is shown in the language used and the size of the text. Fahrenheit 451 takes 301 minutes to read and uses advanced vocabulary that most young adults would struggle with. These characteristics makes this novel not suitable for children but more suited for intellectuals and
