The main idea of Fr. Tad Pacholczyk’s article, Ethics of Donations to Charitable Foundations, is to bring awareness about certain foundations whose donations are used to fund not only for particular causes, but for immoral projects as well. The article discusses ethical concerns for donors to exercise “due diligence,” but to consider where their donations are being fully funded. For example, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Foundation have been known to use some of their donations on research unaligned with Church teaching. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation promotes scientific research to cure Type 1 diabetes, but supports human embryonic stem cell research, while, the Susan G. Tad’s point of view because donating to a foundation is more than just giving money, it is about promoting a cause and spreading awareness. Especially when we know someone who is suffering from an illness, it becomes a personal obligation to fight for them, whether that is by donating or spreading awareness. So, it is essential that foundations are using their funds solely for the cause, not for immoral activities. I think the use of stem cells for medical use can be morally licit, if it does not use human embryonic stem cells. Human embryonic stem cells are babies who have not had a chance to grow and develop, so it would be unethical to kill them for scientific research. In fact, it would be an abortion. Also, studies have shown that human embryonic stem cells do not have satisfactory results in regard to curing illnesses. In addition to the fact that the embryonic stem cell is a valuable human life, the scientific research has not been applicable, so there is no need to destroy these babies. However, adult stem cell research has shown much better results than its counterpart and they are already developed cells. I think that the use of stem cells is ethical, only if it uses adult stem cells. Human embryonic stem cells should not be exploited nor destroyed for any reason, including scientific research. Safely, adult stem cells provide suffering patients with cures and recovery from various illnesses, without jeopardizing a human
