We all ask ourselves when it comes to what we are eating and what we are putting into our bodies I know I ask myself if, the food I am eating is good for me, how it will affect me afterwards, and what is actually in the food we are eating. Genetically modified Organisms aren't what everyone thinks they are, they are one of the best things for the global food industry and production. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), GMO’s should play a major role in the global food industry because GMO’s continue to create advancements in ending global starvation due to creating resistance of pests, other diseases in crops and GMOs lower the risk of crop failure. The world is changing around us and what comes with this change is advancements in the food …show more content…
GMOs help farmers to not have to plant as many crops, and not spray those harmful pesticide sprays. As a whole GMOs do so many amazing things for us, but also for the environment that we live in. “As the population of the world continues to increase, it will be accompanied by an increase in the demand for food” (Chen). As the world continues to grow so will the demand of our need for food, GMOs will solve the food crisis by creating more food, and food will be able to be sent all over the world because of the resistances GMOs have created. GMO foods have been very successful, one of the most successful stories was in 2013 when an orange farmer, was trying to combat an insidious bacterial disease that was affecting his crop. So to overcome this issue he started planting orange trees with a spinach gene that attacks the harmful bacteria and eliminates the problem. If a simple gene can do this to help prevent attacks of harmful bacteria imagine what more GMOs can do for every food we eat. The second successful story was the rainbow papaya which was created a Cornell University, “The SunUp is resistant to the papaya ringspot virus, which is spread by feeding aphids and which began devastating Hawaiian papaya farms in the 1990s. Plants, once infected, do not recover” (Palmer). GMOs continue to do great things for the food industry which continues to create more for us, and they are also proven to have no harmful effects on the body so why would people be against them? People have come to look at the small picture not to big picture and the picture is that GMOs are not harmful and they bring more good than they do bad. If people looked at the bigger picture they would realize that, GMOs do not also just affect us and our need for food they affect the global market industry by bringing more
