Is the use of Google harming our way of learning? With the ability to easily search any topic or person we want, it is becoming easier and easier for people to find any information they need with the click of a button. From a mobile device, to a tablet, or even a computer, there are many ways to look something up online. Can this easily accessible form of information be detrimental for people? Is Google proving to be more of a con rather than a pro? Both Nicholas Carr and Zhai Yun Tan realize that Google effects our learning and has changed our overall mindset.
In Nicholas Carr’s article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” Carr explores the issues the internet has prompted. His main issue with the internet, Google in specific, is how it has noticeably declined our attention span. Instead of reading a textbook in order to learn information about a topic, a quick search online and a couple open tabs, can provide you with all the information you need. Another issue with this simplistic way of finding information is how people want to simplify it even more. Paragraphs of long length will get skimmed through, in order to pick out the information needed.
