Hamlet’s madness is definitely a concern in the play. Though he says himself that he is not, in fact, insane, his performance in some scenes is convincing to tell that he is insane. Whether he is crazy or not or even if he is faking is a big controversy, an I argue to say that Hamlet is indeed just plain crazy. Whats really important is how Hamlet is “being insane”. Some scenes show Hamlets Insanity as a way to achieve goals, but some definitely indicate some sort of madness. For example of how his mood and affection for Ophelia shift throughout the play, and how he kills Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, and Polonius and not seem to be affected by it.

If he had control over it he would speak harsh words to women, especially to Ophelia. If he had never felt love for Ophelia, then fighting Laertes would not have been a logical solution, therefore it was unreasonable. This is seen in Act 3, I believe that Hamlet does not treat the way any woman deserves to be treated and goes to his mother as well. Also to add casual killing for Hamlet do not seem to affect him. In the scene were he accidentally kills Polonius stood out to be the most. In this scene Hamlet is talking to his mother, but does not Polonius is hiding in the closet. His mother is shouting for help, Polonius makes noise in the closet. Hamlet thinks that Claudius is in their to kill, but when really ends up stabbing Polonius. But Hamlet does not act surprised or shock, or show any emotion. At this point, I can conclude that Hamlet is really mentally unstable because murders do not affect him gravely. Lastly, Hamlets plan to bluff his madness was very unintelligent. His plan backfired and ended up killing either directly or indirectly, which only forced him into further
