“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so” ( Shakespeare 99 ). Renown for the intricate and complex orchestration of characters, Shakespeare’s Hamlet is a psychological playground of many themes and emotions. Without a definite answer to Hamlet's teetering insanity the readers must examine various factors to understand the well being of the book's main character. Over hundreds of years, Readers still argue the psychological state of Hamlet. Ultimately Hamlet as a character is meant for readers to examine and come to terms with their own perspective if he is truly insane or not.

“The language is dense and convoluted, difficult to take in at a first hearing” (Josipovic 55 ). His later interactions with Ophelia and his confrontation with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are characterized by insults, curses, and threats, as he lashes out against those he perceives as his enemies. Hamlet's speech patterns reflect his mental state and emotional journey throughout the play. He starts out as a rational and a clever speaker but descends into madness and chaos as his world falls apart around him. It's hard for readers to pinpoint the exact moment Hamlet lost it for there are many moments in the play where things get worse and more tragic for every character. Hamlet uses puns and wordplay to manipulate and confuse others, especially those he no longer trusts and thinks are against him. For example in Act 2, Scene 2, Hamlet speaks to Polonius using nonsensical language, making it difficult for Polonius to follow his train of thought. Polonius mumbles to the side “Though this be madness, yet there is method in ’t”. In Act 4, Scene 2, Hamlet tells Rosencrantz and Guildenstern that he is "but mad north-north-west. When the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw." and uses more wordplay to hint at his true
