An epic hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to endure overwhelming obstacles. In Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, three heros named Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules exhibit different traits that affect their journey in a positive or negative way. Perseus receives supernatural help, Theseus displays incredible strength, and Hercules has a fatal flaw that will end tragically, these qualities are what classify each as an epic hero.
An epic hero is a brave and noble character in an epic poem, admired for great achievements or affected by grand events. In this analysis my main focus would be: why Hercules was famous in Greek Myth? , how did he impact the world and its society? and what lessons can be learnt from him? Hercules, the son of Zeus, was very famous in Greek mythology because he slayed the unbeatable nine headed hydra and the famous Nemean lion. When he was a kid he strangled and killed two venomous snakes with his bare hands and also he was the only warrior in Greek myth who was half god and half human.
A person must posses more qualities than super strength. They must be courageous in all their endeavors. In many cases, the acts committed by an epic hero determine by their superhuman abilities. Being an epic hero takes more than just having superhuman powers, and being able to fight. Being an epic hero means that all those skills can be done with respect.
Overall, Hercules shows the monomyth process a like many other fictional characters and established himself to be a hero. First, Hercules accepts his journey after killing his wife and children, so he set out to all around the world to overcame unstoppable monsters and impossible tasks. Therefore, he crossed into an unknown domain and had to struggle through each of his tasks during the twelve years of enslavement by an atrocious ruler, but still won and therefore got what he deserved. Finally, he returns to Greece where he experiences deification and was worshipped by many individuals that knew of his great voyage. An Epic Hero is a character who’s legendary or heroic actions are central to his culture, race or nation. Beowulf and Odysseus both share some of the seven hero traits; for example being superhuman, fighting monsters and going on a quest. They do not exhibit the exact same traits or in the same way, for example the intervention of the divine world, but they both demonstrate the qualities of an Epic Hero. Both Beowulf and Odysseus prove they are superhuman. Beowulf is able to take down Grendel and Grendel’s mother.
