Saul states, “In the spirit of hockey I believed I had found community, a shelter and a heaven from everything bleak and ugly in the world” (Wagamese 90). Thus, hockey serves as an escape route for all the emotional turmoil that Saul has gone through, and he uses the hockey spirit as a tool to facilitate his healing
Hockey is one of the most important parts for Saul's traumatizing story. It is introduced to him by a priest he met at a residential school, which is ironic as the priests didn't usually bring any good for indigenous kids. He passionately practices the sport using literal feces as equipment which is evidence of his passion. It teaches him valuable life lessons throughout the novel and helps him find a healthy output. Hockey plays a significant role in Saul's story as it serves as a source of hope, freedom and resilience.
It allows him to break free from the torment and abuse he experiences at the school and in the past with his family. The game provides Saul with a sense of identity. He notes that “on the ice, [he feels] free” (22). Saul only sees hockey as a game, not something competitive or violent. He uses hockey to get away from problems that seem to follow him everywhere.
What is the greatest sport? Well I believe that baseball is the greatest sport of them all. Even if other people say it’s boring, or if they don’t like it, I still think it's the best. Baseball is one of those sports that if you are out of shape or in shape you can still make an impact on the game.
4.End up Sacrificing a Lot If you plan on playing lacrosse you have to be ready to sacrifice a lot of freedom. For example you will basically be spending all of Saturday or Sunday playing in lacrosse games. Also you use up almost all of your week playing lacrosse which starts right after the school day ends. 5.Lacrosse Keeps You Healthy Playing lacrosse helps you get your heart stronger.
Is fighting in hockey a marketing tool or ploy? Fighting in hockey is a major marketing tool. Hockey is all about toughness, and the fights are a way to show that toughness. The fighting lures new viewers to see and go hockey games. As hockey gets more violent, more people are watching.
What I already know: Lacrosse has been around for decades, played by those who look for a real sport. It’s been said to be the fastest game on two feet, which is no understatement. It requires strength, endurance, and heart to be able to play the game of lacrosse. All these reasons are why I love to play lacrosse and why it has been my favorite sport for years. I can remember when I first started back in second grade, I didn’t think about why I was playing, it was just another sport to me.
I have been playing Ice Hockey for 12 years now, and I have loved every second of it. Well, almost every second, I’m kind of a sore loser. However, I still love the game. I love how in a game, one play can change the entire atmosphere of the game, whether its a goal that lights up the crowd, a hit that keeps the glass shaking, or a bad call by the ref that has the entire arena booing at the guy in stripes. But most of all, I love how the game has a way of comforting those who play it, like me.
The Miracle on Ice inspired many players around the country to believe that anything is possible and also introduced them to the sport of hockey. Part of the reason there was such a large increase in hockey participation after the game was because hockey became a national sport, instead of being a “northern sport.” The spread of hockey needed a tipping point, and this moment was it. The game also inspired many people to go on and play hockey including into the high levels, as they wanted a shot to do what that team had done. Hockey in America continued to grow into the southern parts of the country like Arizona, Nevada, and Florida.
Playing hockey has allowed me to meet new people, learn to work with others towards a common goal, and also be a leader to those who need it. Being a goalie is a position unlike any other. It is the only position in any team sport that has you playing for a team, but at the same time makes you feel like the most alone person on the planet. For example your team can be performing
Hockey has made me more responsible because on tournament weekends my team always has team breakfasts, lunches, and sometimes dinners. If I know that I have a team breakfast in the morning I make myself wake up in the morning with enough time to take a shower, and get ready to leave for the game right after we eat. Also it’s made me more responsible and on top of my school work. Now at school I always right down my test dates so I never forget when I have a test.
Sports is everything to me, it gets me through life, teaches me lessons, and makes me who I am. My first sport that I ever played was baseball. Whenever me and my family went to the park it was to do drills and play baseball. Being the youngest and believe it or not the shortest it seemed that's all we did.
In competitive sports, you can learn to overcome to odds, how to interact with people as well to be modest. If I were to play hockey just for fun I probably wouldn’t have the same views and values towards sports. If I had kids I would definitely want to put them into competitive sports, wouldn’t
Through hard work and dedication, I quickly began to excel in hockey, but to me, hockey wasn't about winning, in my mind it about making it to the NHL and coming together as a team. Yet one of those things was worse than I thought. I joined a league where I could play and make friends, while we all worked towards the same goal. From that point on I moved higher in the divisions, trying to create what I thought was a capable future of sports.
You meet tons of people and you are able to play with your friends for hours without getting one thought of boredom. One thing I love about basketball is that people have many different styles of play. There are styles such as a passer, playmaker, shooter, defensive player, and dunker or highflyer. When you play basketball you feel much more confident and makes you not care much about how others think about you. When I possess the ball in basketball I have the mentality of being the best and no one could stop me.
