Jay Gatsby is a very interesting person. He is a thirty years old man who could be considered as moving from‘rags to riches’ through his participation in different organized crimes. Gatsby has always been attracted to wealth, fame, and sophistication (which is one of the reason why he is so infatuated with Daisy Buchanan). His reputation precedes him, and often appears to be surrounded by spectacular luxury, powerful men and beautiful women (the subject of gossip of New York). He is what most people would call an ‘anti-hero’, which causes many to questions his actions. Some would question his love for Daisy, how can he be so infatuated about someone who betrayed him, and left him? Even after all that, he is willing to do whatever it takes to win Daisy back. Not a lot has been said about Gatsby’s pass in the novel, except for the idea that he hated every part of it growing up. That was one of the reason why he reinvented himself as Jay Gatsby, someone who young James Gatz had always wanted to have guiding him. Just like the Jay Gatsby of James Gatz, Daisy is also something/someone that Gatsby had longed for and dreamt of having by his side. She is the ‘green light’ of his future. Daisy is Gatsby’s old love before leaving to fight in World War I. Everything about Daisy hypnotizes Gatsby, so much, that he dedicated his whole life to wining Daisy back, whatever and however long it takes after Daisy had left him to marry Tom Buchanan. Gatsby believes that he and Daisy would somehow be able to get back together, and repeat the past of their young love. And if that means for him to take her away from Tom, get involved in illegal activities, anything to get her attention, then so be
