The Lord of the Flies is about a group of only young boys who were on a plane that crashed on to an island. The boys had to survive on the island on their own with the little knowledge that they had about surviving. On the time of the island two boys were murdered, Simon Smith II and Piggy. I believe that justice was not served for the case of Jack Merridew vs. Lord of the Flies because he was only charged for one murder. Yes, Jack Merridew was found guilty for the aggravated murder and 2nd degree murder of Simon Smith II, but he was only given 10 years, he was not charged for the murder of Piggy, and Jack was charged as a juvenile. …show more content…

For instance, In trail Jack Merridew claimed that they thought Simon was the beast because of the littluns and that they all attacked Simon to protect one another. Whereas in the book Jack said “There isn’t a snake-thing” (Golding, 36). While he never believed there was a beast in the island, he kept referring to the beast. Yet on page 152 Jack demands the boys to say a chant, “Kill the beast! Cut the throat! Spill his blood!”. Jack himself never believed that there was a beast but he continued to support the idea of a beast. He knew what he was doing, he knew he could use the idea of the beast to his benefit by saying he could protect them. Simon was on his way to warn the other boys but instead got brutally murdered, he knew there wasn’t a beast but he still took part in the murder of Simon Smith II. Jack was charged with second degree murder which was that the murder was on the heat of passion but he was very aware of his actions and deserved more
