In the novel, Odysseus, a wise Greek hero is leading his men from Troy to Ithaca. Odysseus’ most important quality is intellect. Odysseus outsmarts the Cyclopes and escapes the supernatural foe by using his intelligence.
The description of a hero can be different among many people. Some may say a hero has to be courageous, smart, and strong, but they don’t talk about the flaws a hero may possess. Odysseus portrays very obvious flaws in the epic The Odyssey. When I look more into Odysseus’ flaws as a character, I do not see Odysseus as admirable. When reading The Odyssey, the many obstacles that Odysseus faces and defeats shows him to be courageous and clever.
Odysseus (P.567) This story illustrates how a Greek leader by name Odysseus and his men entered the cave finding food and drink to help themselves with but happened that they fell asleep. And Cyclops, whose other name is Polyphemus, joined them in the cave, he lead his flock sheep in the cave and rolled out a big stone against the mouth of the case which was close to the entrance. Therefore, seeing Odysseus, and his men asleep in the cave, he became angry and grabbed two of the men, crushed them to the rocks and ate them, and later he fell asleep. Odysseus seeing that act of Cyclops couldn’t do anything since Cyclops was the only strongest people that rolled out the stone from the cave.
In the epic poem, “Odyssey” by Homer various important relationship traits are revealed. They all had a great impact on Odysseus life. Some are content and others were maligned. Three relationship traits that are significant in the story are the loyalty, disloyalty and accommodating. Once Odysseus returns back home, he finds out who his loyal and disloyal people are.
If you were to think about a man with great abilities like being strong, courageous and intelligent, you could think of people you personally or like me, you could think of someone such as Odysseus. Odysseus fits the definition of an epic hero because he is quick thinking, strong and courageous. Odysseus is one quick thinking individual. He has gotten him and his crew out some some sticky situations with his clever plans. One of these plans were how to get away from Polyphemus, a cyclops who was the son of Poseidon.
Society believes that normal humans have flaws, but heroes are perfect beings. Homer’s myth The Odyssey, tells of a hero named Odysseus who is on a perilous journey home. Odysseus is a hero that Homer brings to life by giving him a fatal flaw that affects the course of his voyage. Admittedly, Odysseus is naturally witty, but on the contrary, he lets this power go to his head which results in him being overly arrogant.
Is Odysseus an Archetypal Hero? Greek literature has given birth to highly polished and complex long epics that revolved around heroes. In the epic poem, “The Odyssey,” Homer vivified the story of Odysseus, who used his immortal intelligence and bravery to endeavor unattainable obstacles that hindered him from reuniting with his family. Although Odysseus’ return home sacrificed many, but in the ancient Greeks, people celebrated him for his intelligence. However, as time shifts, heroism seems to enhance not only the heroes’ own glory, but the significance they leave for the world.
Odysseus portrays those three heroic traits throughout his voyage home to Ithaca, which is why he is a hero. Odysseus is highly dedicated to his reputation and ego for the whole of his rocky and treacherous journey. From going up against a cyclops that is five times the size of him, to placing wax upon his crewmates’ ears to mute the singing of the Sirens, Odysseus is brave when he faces his fears and intelligent when he creates lifesaving tools from ship materials. A modern hero can be someone who saves a life or even sacrifices his or her own for someone else. Odysseus can be compared to a modern hero because he risks his own life to protect his crewmates.
In the epic The Odyssey, the epic hero Odysseus shows many hero like traits, in my opinion the most important trait would be loyalty. Odysseus, the hero of The Odyssey, first shows the trait loyalty on the Land of the Lotus Eaters. Odysseus sends three of his best men to check out this island, but bad luck has them and they run into Lotus Eaters who are addicted to the Lotus Plant. The next they know is the three men become addicted also.

Odysseus is known for being clever and determined. These qualities help him through the dangerous challenges throughout his journey home.
The Odyssey by Homer revolves around the character, Odysseus, and his ten-year struggle to return home after the Trojan War. As the epic’s idol, he displays the combination of a clever, handsome, and courageous man popular among the mortals as well as the gods. Essentially, he embodies the ideals of the ancient Greek culture, being adorned with many favored characteristics of the era. However, an intriguing aspect of Odysseus lies in his personality. As the protagonist, he does not manifest the entirety of a stereotypical hero because Odysseus has a fatal flaw—his arrogance.
Character traits are a person's personality and how they respond to different situations. In the epic poem The Odyssey, by Homer, the hero Odysseus endured many obstacles to return to his home in Ithaca. The way he reacted to these obstacles showed his character traits and who he really was. The hero Odysseus is known to be a strong man that shows cleverness, bravery and leadership which lead to his successes and failures throughout his journey. Cleverness is gathered with age and wisdom.
