There are many good benefits of religion in empires, but also a lot of reasons it is bad for empires. Religion was the primary reason for war for most empires. Furthermore, it destroyed the economy and became hindered because of their leaders. Religion hindered the power of various states and empires around the medieval world. Powerful empires became hindered because their leader tried to force people to believe a certain religion. Therefore, when the king changed his religion, he tried to force it on his subjects.
