Is Sodium Taking Over Your Health? Did you know that we are eating way too much sodium, in lots of foods that you wouldn’t be expecting it in? Have you ever looked at a label, specifically at the sodium label? Sodium also could be referred to as “The Silent Killer” because not many people know the causes of eating sodium.Sodium has a lot of side effects on eating to much of it, such as fluid retention in the body heart, high blood pressure, and dehydration. This research paper will inform on the ways sodium affects the body in both positive and negative ways. Sodium is everywhere. For example, sodium is in fruits, veggies, and processed foods. Shockingly, sodium has been known to be in processed foods 75% of the time. Sodium is not only found in processed foods but in veggies and sugar. For instance, because salt (sodium) taste so good, it is often lumped together with fat and sugar, two ingredients humans find irresistable. Both, fat and sugar are very bad for you, especially when lumped with sodium; yet to most people those ingredients are very addicting. sodium is essential for good health in our bodies because it conducts electricity and is necessary for proper nerve function. Young kids eat tons of sodium mostly because so of much of it is in processed foods. Young kids eat more processed foods than adults but that’s because kids eat more snacks such as processed foods with a lot of sodium in it. For example, sodium is known as the “Silent Killer” meaning people actually die eating or overdosing on sodium. Too much sodium can affect your heart and stop it from beating. Higher blood pressure is associated with kids that eat too much sodium. Now, kids are more affected to sodium because there blood pressure are higher than others.
