Written by James Fennimore Cooper in 1826, The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, the premise is during the events of the Seven Year’s War, better known as the French and Indian war, during which Great Britain, then the British Empire and its allies clashed with the French Empire and its allies around the globe. The French and Indian War was the American theater of the much larger conflict, the Seven Years war. In the east, their numbers continued to dwindle dangerously low, while at the same time, the tribesmen of the west, the Plains Indian would soon come into conflict with American frontiersmen intent on expanding westward towards the Pacific Ocean, usurping land and waging war against the Great Plains Indians. Set in North America during the events of the French and Indian war, the Atlantic theater of the much larger scale conflict taking place around the world, the Seven Years War. Fenimore wished to discuss the conflict amongst the races and nationalities, as English battled French and as the Native American tribes clashed against one another for territory while also attempting to support their colonial allies. The events that would lead to the French and Indian War would originate from a territorial dispute between France and Britain over control of the Mississippi River
