In the passage “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark,” written by Gary Blackwood, the author demonstrates the significance of education through the lives of the narrator and his family. As the storyline changes his view of their education changes. In the beginning, he feels more educated, which changes to him feeling really embarrassed, but at the end, he finally gets a great understanding of his family education. At the beginning of the text, it shows how he thinks that because he has been in school for a while he knows just about everything. In paragraph 7, it states “I’d been going to school for a while, you see, and thought I knew just about everything”. This statement explains how the narrator thinks that he is smarter than his family because he has been going to school for a long period of time. This means that he feels that his family isn’t as smart as he is because of their lack of education and how they believe the …show more content…

In paragraph 12 it explains, how his neighborhood is making fun of his family because his dad is building an Ark. The narrator starts to feel discomfited because everyone was joking how his father was trying to be the ‘New Old Testament’, as stated in paragraph 12. He didn’t feel as if it was necessary for his father to build the Ark, but he also didn’t feel as if it was necessary for his neighbor to make the jokes either. At the end of the story, he starts to realize his family’s education. He understands that his family don’t have to be in school every day of the week to have an education as good as his. In the last paragraph, it says, “I guess there’s more than one kind of education.” This proves how he feels as if his family has an education just not the same as his. He finally understands that there are different types of educations. He accepts the fact that his family doesn’t have a perfect education, but the fact that they have one is
