Isaac Newton Isaac Newton was one of the greatest minds of the 17th century Scientific Revolution. He was both a physicists and a mathematician. He developed the principles of modern physics, such as the laws of motion. Newton published, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy). It has been acclaimed the single most influential book in physics. Isaac Newton lived an extraordinary life, filled with many great achievements. Isaac Newton was born on January 4th, 1643. Using “the "old" Julien calendar, Newton's birth date is sometimes displayed as December 25, 1642” (Isaac Newton). He was born in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. His father was a local farmer, also named Isaac Newton, who …show more content…

He immediately became infatuated with chemistry and was heartbroken when his mother pulled him from school to become a farmer (Isaac Newton). Proving himself to be a terrible farmer, he was then sent back to school. After Newton had graduated from his basic schooling, his uncle and himself pleaded for his mother to send him to university. Arriving at the University of Cambridge's Trinity College, the Scientific Revolution was already in full force (Isaac Newton). During his time there, he become more and more interested in science. It was also during this time that “Newton kept a second set of notes, entitled "Quaestiones Quaedam Philosophicae" ("Certain Philosophical Questions"). The "Quaestiones" reveal that Newton had discovered the new concept of nature that provided the framework for the Scientific Revolution” (Isaac Newton). The university closed down for two years when the Great Plague was spreading through Europe. In this time, Newton did not stop studying or stop trying to learn as much as he could about science. Returning to the university, Newton also wrote a treatise, called “De Analysi”. Isaac Newton was always extremely passionate about his education, always wanting to further his learning and better his understanding of the world of …show more content…

He became very interested in the world of physics. It is said that his interest in physics stemmed from seeing an apple fall from a tree. He wondered why the apple fell straight down to the ground and not at an angle (Isaac Newton). This introduced his exploration of theories of gravity and motion. In Newton's “Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica” it states exact quantitative descriptions of bodies in motion. He explains this in three basic laws of motion. The first one is, “A stationary body will stay stationary unless an external force is applied to it”(Isaac Newton). The second law is, “Force is equal to mass times acceleration, and a change in motion (i.e., change in speed) is proportional to the force applied (Isaac Newton). His third law is, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. These laws showed Isaac Newton to be on of the greatest minds of the Scientific Revolution and one of the greatest minds throughout history. His mind was unlike no other, due to his constant crave for knowledge and constant questioning of the world around him. The world of physics would be completely different if it was not for his discovers and laws that are still followed and practiced in modern
