The second largest growing religion in the world is Islam and it goes back to ancient time with a current estimated of about “1.5 billion adherents worldwide, and about seven million Muslims living in the United States” (Corduan, 2012, p. 93). Islam means submission to God (Corduan, 2012). When people hear the word Muslim or think of it, that’s when a lot of stereotyping comes in because of what happened in the 9/11 attack that took place in the United States. However, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are all monotheistic religions, and they are all similar in beliefs and traditions. In the life of a Muslim living around the world, the five pillars are very important for them to perform in their daily lives. The pillar that I will discuss, is the second pillar and that is the prayer which is referred to as salat in Arabic. Prayer is seen as an everyday thing in a Muslims life, and it is also significant in almost every religion. Prayer could help an individual have a better life as well as help them to function better in their everyday lives. “Salah is a very precise worship and different than praying on the inspiration of the moment, much like us Christian do.” (Mufti, 2006). Muslims are encouraged to pray five times a day, and it could be anywhere that permits space. The Muslims pray from “sunrise, noon, midafternoon, sunset, and one hour after sunset” (Corduan, 2012). However, Muslims are not to pray for anything that is pertaining to war, health issues, and for the journey to be easy. “Praying certain times in the day would be easy initially but it helps Muslims remain aware of their faith and the role their faith plays in their life” (Mufti, 2006). Before worshipping God in prayer, Muslims would start their day off by washing themselves, just like Judaism and Christianity do. Assyrians, Syriac, and Syriac are what most of the Iraqi Christians call themselves. The Iraqi Christians faith are grounded in the performance of their Christian faith according to the ways of Jesus Christ. They focus on the five pillars of Islam just as the Muslims do and they do not do anything different. Although, Iraq is not a Muslim nation, but research state they are, Iraqi Christians still follow the five pillars of Islam (Muller, 2014). Besides Judaism and Christianity, Islam is the largest religion. The Islamic live by a basic structure that they follow which is known as the five pillars of Islam. These five pillars were discussed earlier in this essay and were also analyzed according to how a Muslim function in an everyday life
